Our mission is to alleviate hunger throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  We accomplish this with a dynamic group of volunteers who source donations, package nutritious food to stretch a family's food supply and distribute that food to qualifying residents of the SCV.

Our ultimate goal is to meet the current and future hunger needs of our neighbors in need and ensure self-sufficiency through active partnerships with other organizations throughout the community.

The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is seeking sponsors for the 21st Annual Run/Walk Against Hunger and 1K Kiddie Run scheduled for Sunday, October 26th. Various sponsor levels are available. All proceeds help provide supplemental food to those less fortunate in our valley. The SCV Food Pantry is celebrating its 28th year of neighbors helping neighbors, because "No child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry". A Santa Clarita bank employee charged with stealing from Wells Fargo customers was arraigned on four counts Wednesday, including a charge he stole from an 81-year-old woman, a District Attorney’s Office spokesman said. Samuel Jose Godinez, 25, of Valencia, was arrested July 2 and booked for felony commercial burglary, theft by access card and for passing checks with known insufficient funds, officials said. He was fired from Wells Fargo, where he was an employee, after officials there conducted an investigation into the reports.

A Santa Clarita Valley teen was cited for marijuana possession in Valencia after a brief investigation in front of the office for the Detectives Bureau of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, officials said Wednesday. A Sheriff's Station detective returning to the office from the nearby Valencia courthouse walked by two teenagers who were next to a glass wall by the entrance of the bureau’s headquarters. One of the teenagers pulled out a marijuana pipe and was about to smoke when the 17-year-old boy was confronted by the detective, said Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin of the Crime Prevention Unit.

Chiquita Canyon officials are looking to expand their landfill west of Santa Clarita city limits, and the project is currently open for public comment befor a county hearing Aug. 24. The 639-acre landfill site, which is owned by Waste Connections and permitted for about 257 acres of waste, is looking to double its daily disposal limits, set aside of land for a potential conversion technology site, improve its entrance and support facilities and extend the life of the landfill, to name a few of the project’s goals. The landfill is located outside city of Santa Clarita limits about three miles west of the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 126. The proposed project will increase the permitted waste footprint within the existing property line by approximately 143 acres by extending it slightly south toward the existing landfill entrance and to the north and east.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are hoping to find the rightful owners of property recovered as a result of a burglary investigation, officials said. Parks Bureau deputies with the Sheriff’s Department arrested Cortez on suspicion he forced his way into the residence that was occupied by an acquaintance of his. Once inside the residence, Cortez allegedly stole power tools, two cellphones, a GPS unit and a Nintendo Gameboy, officials said.

Despite Santa Clarita Valley governing boards’ approval of election changes in response to California Voting Rights Act concerns, an outdated county system won’t be able to handle the changes for at least another four years, officials said. “Our current voting system both the devices we use at the polls and, more importantly, the tabulations system we use... can not run a cumulative voting system,” said Efrain Escobedo, governmental and legislative affairs manager for the Los Angeles County’s Registrar-Recorder’s Office. “It’s just the limitations of the technology,” he said, referring to a voting system created in the late 1960s.

Saugus knocked out Canyon in the quarterfinals, 5-3.

Caden Salkeld hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the game.

The Saugus Union School District governing board nominated David Powell, a Cal Lutheran program director, to the vacant board seat Friday. Powell replaces Stephen Winkler, who had his seat vacated due to allegations he was maintaining a residence outside of the district’s boundaries. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are investigating a series of burglary reports, including an attempted hot prowl burglary, in the Stevenson Ranch area, officials said Friday. Two suspects attempted to break into a residence Wednesday on the 24700 block of Laurelcrest Lane, in unincorporated Los Angeles County, through a rear sliding glass window, according to Sheriff’s Station reports. “We’ve stepped up patrols in response and the zone leader for that area, Deputy Jeremy Carr, has been working with residents and Sheriff’s Station detectives to help identify and arrest the suspects,” said Sheriff’s Station deputy Josh Dubin of the Crime Prevention Unit. “We’ve been actively patrolling and we have detectives who are actively investigating the incidents.

Hart district officials changed their elections with a 4-1 vote Wednesday, following a discussion at the Santa Clarita Valley high school district’s governing board meeting. The change wasn’t a popular choice among board members, but it provided them with a “safe harbor” from a potential lawsuit, said Hart district governing board President Steve Sturgeon. “All five board members basically testified last night that we should be able to vote at large -- it gives an opportunity for the entire population to choose who their representatives are,” Sturgeon said. “So this becomes a little more exclusive to an area, which was the intent, and we’ll see how it works.”

Sheriff’s Department officials are investigating a series of Twitter accounts reporting to post naked pictures of Santa Clarita Valley high school girls, an official said Wednesday. Known as SCV_Purge, the account posted nearly two dozen photos Wednesday night, with posts including pictures with captions identifying Santa Clarita Valley high school students. Santa Clarita officials questioned the legality of their own settlement in a California Voting Rights Act lawsuit in a briefing filed this week. The filing is a result of Santa Clarita officials’ uncertainty over whether their agreed-upon settlement is legal and feasible, said Joe Montes, Santa Clarita city attorney. “If cumulative voting is not permitted and we’re not allowed to change the election date, then the parties will have to confer again as to how the matter will proceed,” Montes said. “It could mean that the litigation resumes, it could mean settlement talks could have to resume -- that’s just too far off to speculate at this point.”

The Hart PONY Mustang 9U Red Team won the Super Regions Tournament at the Hart Complex.

The Mustang Red Team went 4-0 in the tournament. They beat the North Valley All Stars, 10-4, in the championship game. The Mustang Red Team outscored its opponents, 40-12, in the four games.

The Hart team advances to the PONY Zone Tournament as the No. 1 seed in Southern California. Their first game is Friday against Washington in Walnut.
